My Philosophy

There is something within each of us that knows when everything is balanced and healthy. My goal is to facilitate activation of that self-healing system within each person. At every level of our being, from the cell to the fascia to the muscles and internal organs to the breath – even to the soul – when we are able to connect the parts to each other and to the whole, we return to homeostasis. The health of each individual is the whole. It is innate. I seek to help each individual anchor a greater sense of well being within such that you may integrate positive changes into your daily life. This involves both tissue release and education. The deep layer of connection within us (somatic memory, developmental biology) has the capacity to cue the parts needing help so that optimum function may be restored.

Instead of seeking short-term relief of symptoms, I want to help people strategize how to transform problems into solutions, such that problems go away and stay away. We achieve this through craniosacral therapy and other Osteopathic Manual Practices, movement, myofascial unwinding, deep tissue release, nutrition, Reiki, and breathing pattern modification.

When you enter my office with pain, I want you to walk out feeling relief and balance. There is something within each of us that knows when everything is balanced and healthy. At every level of our being, from the cell to the whole, from fascia to muscles to internal organs to breath and even to the soul, when we connect the parts to each other and to the whole, we return to homeostasis. The health of each individual is the whole. It is innate. With 25 years of manual therapy practice experience, I promote this sense of well-being in each individual.

In 1990, after twelve years of chronic pain, I had my first my first Trager® and craniosacral sessions. These were transformative experiences. During each session, it felt as if the therapist was doing little to nothing, yet I had never experienced anything so effective! I drew parallels between these treatments and my experience in dance, which I found very alluring. Each demands profound subtlety and specificity to be beautiful and effective. Although my education had focused on geology, dance and field ornithology until this point, I decided to change my trajectory and focus on the human body.

Since then, I’ve studied and practiced with many amazing teachers, and have pursued many forms of massage therapy and bodywork. This includes craniosacral therapy, myofascial therapy, Sports Injury Treatment and other functional and structural methods. I’m a Reiki Master and Teacher, was certified as a Nutritional Therapist, am a Registered Breathing Educator and am currently deepening my study of Cranial Osteopathy (pursuing a diploma from the Canadian School of Osteopathy – Manual Practice). It is my foundation in sciences (BA in Geology, BS in Biology) combined with my experience in movement studies, meditative and energetic realms that sets my practice apart.

I help people of all ages to recover and get relief from trauma, pain, and postural and scar tissue challenges. My clients include people who are injured (including pre-/post-surgery), who are pregnant, infants, and those seeking relaxation. I also assist those with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, cancer, lupus and chronic fatigue syndrome. With breathing retraining, I address symptoms of asthma, allergies, sleep problems and improve athletic performance. With a background in dance, yoga and mountain sports, I’ve adapted my practice to providing support for athletes.

With a first-hand understanding of the impact near-death and severe injuries can have and the healing/recovery process, I know that it is the Biodynamic Force that heals us. The therapist simply helps remove the obstacles to it. When we can tap in to the vitality within each of us, we heal. I bring a broad and deep experience of the body, science, and more esoteric realms of healing to you.

If you have on-going pain, chronic health problems, or if you are looking to improve your athletic performance or health, I hope I can be of help. Please give me a call or send an email and let’s talk about your goals.

What does a bodywork session look like?

At the beginning of a typical session, I interview the client to understand their treatment goals. It may be Reiki, craniosacral, massage or possibly a combination (I am currently a student of Osteopathic Manual Practice). Depending on your level of comfort and the type of treatment, clients usually wear leggings/sweatpants or shorts and a bra/camisole/bikini or underwear. After an interview and a complete assessment, which will involve standing, sitting and lying down on an osteo table, I will assess the position, mobility and quality of certain tissues, fluids and rhythms of the body. Then, I use manual therapy toward assisting the body to regain its ability to optimally circulate fluids and restore its health.

This method is both healing and profoundly relaxing. Read what my clients have to say about it.

What is Breathing Retraining?

To initiate Breathing Retraining, we start with an individual meeting to evaluate your breathing, your goals and whether and how I may help. The goal of retraining is to restore healthy breathing patterns by improving breathing efficiency, both bio-chemically and bio-mechanically. It is a process of learning to take in the right amount of air for our metabolic needs, rebalancing the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in our bloodstream, and maintaining a healthy blood pH so that we have optimal oxygenation of the tissues.

The breathing retraining method I use is one of the few breathing techniques which has been extensively tested in a medical setting and has been proven to be a natural, safe and effective way to relieve and eliminate the symptoms of stress, asthma, allergies, sleep apnoea, panic attacks, sinusitis, hay fever, chronic colds, flu and bronchitis, snoring and some types of emphysema. Please see my breathing retraining website.
